This simple weaving project is said to have
originated from the Huichol Indians of Jalisco, Mexico. Originally
called ‘The Ojo de Dios’ it is also known as the
God's Eye. The Huichol tribe named their God’s Eye ‘Sikuli’
meaning ‘the power to see and understand things unknown’.When
a child was born the father would weave the inner eye and
then a layer is added for every year of the child’s
life till the age of five.
I hope you enjoy creating your God’s Eye. Follow the
instructions below:
What you need:
String or yarn in several colours
2 ice lolly or craft sticks
Glue (PVA)
Scissors
Glue the two craft sticks together to make a cross.
Take the coloured string and begin wrapping it over and around
one stick, then over and around the next, over and around the
next, and so on.
Use
a different coloured string and tie it tightly onto the old
string. Repeat steps 2 & 3 until the God’s Eye looks
complete.
Take
a piece of string for a hanger, cut it, and make a loop to hang
it with. Glue this to your God's Eye. Hang it up and ENJOY!
